Help Put a Stop to DUI Accidents in 2017

|

Now that 2017 is officially upon us, it is time to start thinking about what you want to accomplish this year. While there are many great ways to improve your health and well-being this year, have you ever thought about what you can do to stay safer this year? Why not take proactive steps towards doing just that, especially when it comes to staying safe on the road.

Every year, people get hurt in horrible alcohol-related accidents. We have laid out some safety tips and ideas below especially related to preventing drunk driving accidents, to help you and your loved ones have a happy and healthy 2017.

  • Always have a designated driver. Whether you are going out or having people over to your home, make sure that everyone has a way to get home safely at the end of the night. Even if that means calling them an Uber or Lyft ride, it could save their life.
  • Stop serving early in the night. While this may seem like a lame idea, if you are hosting a party, it may be a good option to put away the alcoholic beverages a few hours before the party is supposed to be over. Those few hours without alcohol for your guests will allow them to be more sober and focused before they head home.
  • Take car keys. This can be something that you get in the habit of doing any time you have a party where alcohol is being consumed. It can be difficult to monitor if any of your guests have left while intoxicated unless you keep their keys in a safe place until they are prepared to drive. In the event that a guest were to leave your home drunk and get into an accident, you could end up being partially liable, so take that extra precaution.
  • Allow people to crash at your place. Even if this seems inconvenient to open up your guest room or couch to someone to stay the night, it could end up saving people from horrific injuries or even a fatal accident. Better safe than sorry if your friend is unsure whether or not they are fit to drive home. Why not wait until the morning for them to sleep it off?
