The Fire Department of New York confirmed that a crane collapse in New York City on Wednesday, July 26 resulted in injuries to 12 individuals, including nine civilians and three firefighters. According to CNN, none of the injuries were life-threatening. Those injured in the crane accident were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

During a news conference, Deputy Commissioner Joseph W. Pfeifer of the New York Fire Department revealed that one of the injured firefighters experienced chest pains and the majority of the civilians who suffered injuries were construction workers. The incident took place at a construction site on 10th Avenue and 41st Street. Firefighters were responding to a five-alarm fire before the crane boom collapsed, damaging a nearby building.

Crews at the scene extinguished the fire, and drones were employed by FDNY officials to conduct a closer examination of the crane. According to Pfeifer, the fire began while the crane operator was lifting around 16 tons of concrete. The operator noticed the fire in the crane's engine and attempted to suppress it but was overcome by the flames. Fortunately, the operator was able to exit the crane's cab safely.

As part of the investigation into the crane collapse, authorities will thoroughly investigate all parties involved in its operation. Furthermore, engineers will assess the structural integrity of the building that was struck by the falling boom.
