Volkswagen Recalled Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles in the Month of July for Safety Issues

|

Volkswagen issued recalls on approximately 700,000 cars during the month of July, citing potentially hazardous defects as their reasoning.

Most recently, Consumer Reports shared news of a recall on 27,822 Tiguan SUVs and CC models sold in 2015 and 2016. Specifically, Volkswagen recalled CCs built between May 6, 2015 and December 17, 2015, and Tiguans built between March 12, 2015 and December 19, 2015.

The recalled vehicles, says Volkswagen, have a computer malfunction that can either prevent airbags from deploying when needed, or deploying when not necessary. There have been no reported injuries associated with the defective airbag deployment mechanism.

Drivers who are in possession of one of the recalled CCs or Tiguans can visit a Volkswagen dealership to have new software installed and defective parts replaced for free, and can double check if their car was recalled though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website.

Volkswagen Headlight Defects in Early July

The news of the airbag-related recall follows another Volkswagen recall from the beginning of the month, when 662,185 vehicles were recalled “for a possible headlight misalignment issue,” according to the International Business Times.

The subject of this recall was 2018 and 2019 Atlas SUVs, and Passat models produced during the model years of 2012 to 2020.

Reportedly the result of a manufacturing defect, the headlights in the recalled vehicles could fail to light up the road to their full potential capacity, and may contribute to glares. These issues could present a safety risk for Volkswagen drivers, and for others on the road.

Owners can use the NHTSA recall check website to see if their car was affected, and may receive a letter in the mail if their vehicle needs to be taken to a dealership for repairs.
