Every time we are on the roads or highways of the NYC or the rest of the
United States, many of us encounter careless drivers every single day.
Unfortunately, there are many “minor” hazardous driving habits
that result in serious and devastating collisions.
The next time you are driving, consider the way you drive and how you can
make the roads safer by not succumbing to the following bad habits:
Using your smartphone while driving.
Texting while driving is one of the most dangerous driving habits, responsible for approximately
one out of three
car accidents throughout the country. When you take your eyes, hands, and attention
away from the road for only a few seconds, you risk causing injuries to
yourself and others surrounding you.
Tailgating. Many drivers often follow the car in front of them too closely, not providing
enough room for themselves to brake which can result in a rear-end crash.
Speeding. Although going five miles per hour over the speed limit doesn’t
sound too serious, even a minor increase in speed can put you more at
risk of an accident. Additionally, you can also be given a speeding ticket
for your actions.
Running red lights. Many drivers increase in speed as they attempt to beat the traffic light
as it turns red, sometimes speeding through an intersection even when
it turns red. Not only is this a terrible habit, but you can but everyone
around you in imminent danger.
Road rage. We understand that traffic and bad drivers can get the best of our emotions,
making us angry enough to shout and hurl insults at others. Driving angry
often leads to poor decisions and hazardous driving.
Failing to use turn signals. Turn signals notify other drivers that you are making a turn or changing
lanes. Failure to do so can result in dangerous collisions since other
drivers are not able to read your mind.
